Thank you for your comments on plus size swimwear. This is something that I also deal with in the beachwear business. There are so many great fashionable options for all women now. There are one piece and two piece swimsuits called shapers which may make you appear long and lean. The variety of colors and patterns may be used to your advantage with a one piece bathing suit. The darker colors appear to be more slimming while brighter colors and patterns may attract attention away from a problem area. As you mentioned the boy shorts are popular and there is also the tankini. Designers are finally getting it right.

I’ve tried to suck sand out using a vacuum cleaner. It works, but you should place a old sheer stocking over the nozzle of the hose, so you won’t damage the swimsuit’s fibers. You don’t want to suck the bathing suit bottom or top through the end of the nozzle either! Good luck.

Has anyone ever tried to suck out the sand with a vacuum cleaner? I have a white bathing suit and the fabric itself is ‘peppered’ with sand I can’t get out. It is now soaking in water w/Woolite. When it’s completely dry I will try the vacuum method and let you know how it turned out.

Another way of removing very fine black sand (ingrained) into your bikini, is to use sellotape / or a sticky roller. Stretch the material to open the fibers and press the sticky tape against the material (when stretching the material, some sand feel out). This really works! I thought my new bikini was ruined, but have got most of the sand out. You might need to test a small part of the material first to make sure it doesn’t damage the garment.
